Great shots! Love the background in the first one and the second one is excellent in terms of image quality. Is the Pentax-M 50 mm f/1.7 a vintage lens? I think I have an older SMC Pentax-M 50 mm f/1.4 lens and it's nowhere near that quality, even when stopped significantly...
Simple joy, the Pentax-M 50mm f1.7 is of the same vintage as your f1.4 version. I've got both lenses, and I think stopped down they are both similar. Maybe yours needs an adjustment?

Still struggling with focus issues. I need shims that are slightly thicker than the ones Focusingscreens.com gave me, but thinner than the metal one that came with the camera. Does anyone know where one can obtain focus screen shims?

Nice shots, barondla, particularly the zen garden.
Today I swapped focus shims in my silver camera, which I think helped with the focusing issues I've been having. Also, I figured out that if I modify my practice I can get more hits. So I practiced today with my K200f2.5 wide open all day just to see how well I could do. I'm satisfied with the results.

You've got the mighty 200mm macro also? It's an awesome lens, isn't it? Of course it is, as you've demonstrated with this teeny tiny mushroom. Nicely shot, and wide open, too. Not easy, and you did great.
I set the JPG profile in the camera to BW and shot RAW+JPG today. I've actually been shooting RAW+JPG for a while now and deleting 99% of the jpgs as the RAW files are so much richer, but I wanted to give the shots today a chance. I chose color versions for posting here, but the BW are available on my Flickr.
