Today with your Pentax

Vacuum tubes of my D. Sachs D2 stereo preamp. The blue was supplied by the on/off switch of the PS Audio Stellar 300 amp. Pentax K-1 with Kolari hot mirror filter, Nikon EL-Nikkor 80mm lens. Could have used a Pentax lens but wanted to also shoot this in full spectrum, IR and UV*. ISO 200, F8 at 3 minutes. Shot a little dark so as to not blow out more highlights than needed. Lightened up about 2/3 stop in post processing.

• Apparently these tubes emit no UV. Even ISO 800, F5.6 at 7 minutes records nothing visible on the monitor.

I'm not sure why, but it looks like I need to make an adjustment to the shim and focus screen in one of my cameras. I'm not sure how long it's been miscalibrated, but I noticed it yesterday and it backfocuses noticeably. I must have chalked it up to bad eyesight or else the problem was masked by narrow apertures until now. Anyway, here's today's catch.

I'm not sure what's going on with my camera. I tested it before making the shim adjustments in the viewfinder that I mentioned yesterday, and it tested fine with three different lenses. Spot on, actually. I took the camera out today and it was fine. So, I guess I just had a bad spell of operator error the other day, since I lack any other explanation.

Today it rained most of the time we were outside, so the cameras were kept stowed except for a few short exceptions. I was sheltering under a tree in the second shot. Here's today's catch.

Moth and Trap. Surprised such a large critter couldn't pull free.
Pentax Q7 and #06 telezoom with Movo extension tube. The company screwed up the tube design and they have too much extension to work with any Q lens except the #06 at 45mm. The two longer tubes can't focus with any Q lens. ISO 100, F4.5 at 1/250 uses built in flash. This was in a window sill and very backlit. Leaf shutters are so nice with flash!

Pentax K-1, Pentax DFA100 macro, and Pentax AF160 ringflash. ISO100, F16 at 1/125. Flash was on 1/4 power. I added a ground spike and clipboard mechanism to a monopod. That holds a background sheet so flash doesn't turn background black.

Your dog food bag is looking a lot the same as my dog food bag. Of course, this means you're going to have to shoot some photos of your dog now. 😉

Our path was thwarted by a huge puddle, which the dog and I opted to avoid today. That meant a detour into less familiar territory. I'm still experiencing strange problems with focusing with one of my cameras. Manually focusing (of course) and wide open, I get backfocus in the field, but when I come home and test in controlled conditions, it's perfect. Any ideas?

Not sure how you are testing the camera at home? Make sure the light is similar color temperature wise. Lenses focus differently depending on light. This is why many older lenses have IR focus marks on their distance scale. Camera wise, make sure the viewfinder diopter setting hasn't moved. Also make sure the focus screen is seated correctly in camera. Had an Olympus OM-1 film camera that screen got jostled slightly and threw all my focusing off. You might do an outdoors test with camera on tripod and comparing viewfinder vs Liveview manual focusing.Be sure to unfocus camera between the two trials and use liveview at 8X. Hope you get it worked out
