Forgive the distortion, shot from the hip.

Distortion easily correctable in pp if you want to, but it's a nice shot as it is.
Assuming this is a local guy, it's interesting to think that as a young man, he would have experienced life under the dictatorship that ended in 1974 :-(
Just came back from a week in Portugal and learned a lot from our guide about a country I didn't know much about before. He told us that in a way Portugal is like the little brother of the bigger country Spain, somehow the people in Portugal are a bit more relaxed and a bit more laid back. Reminded me a bit of Austria being sometimes comapred to the big brother Germany :-)

You should see the distortion in the original shot!
Yes, I'm new to Portugal and rather like it. Been to Lisbon a couple of times, lovely city.

    RAINFOREST
The Galloway Hills of SW Scotland are home to one of the most threatened environments in the world - Atlantic temperate rainforest. This little patch has hundreds of rare plants and mosses, as well as animal life.

    This one is special.

Legoreccio. The long window on the fist floor was once the front door, reached by a ladder. You can see a couple of small slit windows, to enable the owners to shoot at unwanted visitors.

Think you've posted a house with a similar door before, I find that idea fascinating. There are a few areas around London now that could do with a similar feature.

A Disappointing Sunset On Heapey Moor

It's been a while since I was last up Great Hill, so I made an effort to head up there one evening this week. It was a lovely evening for a walk and the sky looked promising, with some high and scattered cloud cover. But sure enough, that ever present fog bank over the Irish Sea was there to ruin things as the sun made its final dash for the horizon, leading to slim pickings on the image front.

    1. Tree at Great Hill Farm

I quite liked the overall shape of this tree that stands alone at Great Hill Farm. From this angle it appears to gradually bend backwards, no doubt influenced over the years by the strong winds as they howl across the moors.

    2. Looking Across The Moors From Great Hill Farm

This shot is looking back across the moors in the direction I've come from. The upper portion of the sky is full of interest, but you can see how it fades towards a grey mass as the eye moves down towards the distant horizon. I took this just before I headed up to the summit of Great Hill and the sun sank into the featureless band of oblivion, sucking the colour out of my surroundings.

    3. Blackpool Light

For those not from the UK, Blackpool is famous (amongst other things) for its annual festival where the promenade is festooned with decorative lights and tableaux that have become increasingly sophisticated over the years. This event is known as "Blackpool Lights". This image has no link whatsoever to that event, other than it features the Blackpool promenade, identifiable by the presence of its famous tower (one of the aforementioned "other things") poking out from the horizon and an interesting splodge (technical meteorological term) of light in what was an otherwise featureless, post sunset sky. This is a surprisingly sharp 1/15th of a second image hand held image taken at 100mm (150mm equiv.) with the X-H2.

    Re: RAINFOREST

These are nice, particularly the second one, although the third deserves an honourable mention too. I wonder if a vertical crop of #2 featuring just the central three trees would work?

Another well seen and perfectly timed image. At first glance I thought this was taken with a fisheye, but looking at it properly I see not.

I like the calm vibe of the second shot with that pastel sky. The colours in the last are nice too.

Is that a wind farm out to sea in the last shot ?
