The crop does help, but the main issue I was having with it was the overly busy nature making it difficult to pick out the subject, so I took another look at the processing and I think this is a bit better.

For the upper half, I've selectively darkened the green tones and lifted the bright end of the levels to compensate, which has the effect of making the branch stand out quite a lot more.

For the lower half, I've increased the contrast significantly and dropped the blacks, which punches up the reflection quite a bit. What do you think?

I did have a dabble with cropping to just the reflection and flipping it vertically to make it more surreal. It sort of works, but there's no clear point of focus. I do like how it's emphasised the bluebells lurking by the shore a bit.

Yeah, the paper mill is certainly an interesting place. The main problem I have with it, is some of the units appear to be occupied by car repair businesses, so there are lots of parked cars dotted around the place (on shot #2 I've actually painted out the white van that can be seen at the base of the chimney on shot #1 because it was slap bang in the middle of the image). They've also built the modern housing development extremely close to the rest of the mill, which spoils things a bit, from a period point of view. Grumbles aside though, I will be revisiting it at some point.

Here are the last shots from my recent trip to Bath. St Catherine's Court is a huge county house hidden away down a narrow single track country lane. It was owned it seems by a certain Jane Seymore until a few years ago. She build a recording studio in the house. Bands like the Cure, New Order and Radiohead recorded albums here. You can enter the grounds to arrive at the little church, with its memorial to a Cromwellian soldier and his pious wife.

I'm glad you enjoyed my ramblings. I often wonder if I'm just wittering on about stuff nobody is interested in, or, when I'm describing anthropomorphic trees, makes me sound a bit mad, so I appreciate the feedback on that element of my post :-)

Yep, the Irish Sea is full of the things these days. Here's a sunset shot I took from the moors on a much clearer night back in July last year. This has the distinctive shape of Blackpool Tower on the left, with the offshore wind farm close to Barrow-In-Furness. The hills in the distance are actually the Isle of Man.

    Watching the waves!
Just standing on a cliff in Portugal, and looking down at the Atlantic waves crashing over some rocks, provides an endless stream of new and different images.
    Quite therapeutic ;-)

Not so sure about this. I think it loses something.

Looks like an interesting little chapel. Mrs Blanchard does seem a bit austere. I bet she was a laugh after a couple of glasses of ale ;)
