The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

Thread Guidelines:

1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
   Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
   ”Likes” are encouraged too.
5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside, … from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape Photography means to you.

Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

Downloading and re-posting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and re-post images in replies to express their analysis and critique. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Up high, Down low, you'll find the little flowers

A couple of a sunset from a small rise in town this evening - there aren't many spots for an uninterrupted view.

I still had my 100-400 on when I pulled up so took a couple before swapping to the 12-60. Things change pretty quickly and I might have missed the best of it...

A Walk in the Swamp

Excellent IQ as always and the depth in the distance (mountains) is really nice. There is also a wildflower season here @ Mt. Rainier NP (July into early August) but I have been so busy with work that I have not gotten up to the mountains this summer. :-( And skiing this past winter... only twice.

These are both very nice. I like the "fire" in the sky (#1). Yes, the light changes quickly in these situations.

The leaves on the "lily pad plants" (?) look good. How often do you shoot with the Leica?

A couple out the back door -- since I have been a bit "challenged" lately in the landscape department. This is all I could muster over the past week.

Well these look very good! You've got a lovely range of colours in the sky from red, through orange to yellow. Yes, such wonderful scenes can change real fast.
Both good, but I think I prefer the more "friendly" first one.

Sometimes a sunset with a telephoto lens can look good. You can get just the reddest part completely filling the frame, with perhaps some silhouettes in the foreground providing the interest. I'll post one right after this post.

I used the Q2M exclusively for at least a year and 1/2. I loved the rendering of the camera. Since I spent most of my adult life taking B&W film, I was quite proficient with modifying the spectral response with color filters. The sensor in the Q2M had a very flat response - unlike most films - which made it nice. I did fine I used a light orange (15) most of the time. I am very fond of the 28 mm FOV for most things. I do use a Nikon for longer lenses.

When Fujifilms brought out the GFX100RF it replaced my Q2M. The monochrome resolution and smoothness of tonal gradation of the 100RF converted to B&W (using Silver Efex ) is equivalent to the Q2M plus the 100RF sensor has about a stop and 1/2 more DR.

Those are lily pads. Like all vegetation in FL, they grow larger and faster. During the summer (this was March), they have bright yellow flowers about the size of a softball.

Lots of colours here. I like those red rims on the dark clouds. The rock on the left gives a nice "anchor point" and adds depth to the image.

Nice sunset image. I'd be curious how it would look with a square crop?

This is a shot I would never have thought to take. But I really like it. It's a really interesting composition, with the tree branches parallel to the frame. The longer exposure makes a great contrast of the water - I think it would not have worked with 'freeze' frame water.
