The year 2000 is the arrival of Nikon and Canon in the world of digital SLRs!
And of course, the interest of passionate photographers, like you and me, will very quickly switch from compacts to digital SLRs..
I will soon open a new Thread on the beginnings of DSLRs

In the meantime, a look at two funny digital cameras, which I like. 🤡

Fascinating. Couple of things I see and a question. Somewhere around 1998 the image quality seems to become remarkably better.
Most boxes are very different from what we get now, Not only the cardboard, but there were complete brochures printed on them. That may have something to do with customers in many B&M shops getting to handle the boxes, while now when they get it the sale is already done and unboxing has become an experience in itself.
Q: the batteries, were they mostly AA or AAA then?

About the Ricoh RDC2, there was a website called StevesDigicams, com, which some of you may remember, In 1996, Steve suggested in an email that I look at the Ricoh, which was selling for around a discounted $600 at NewEgg,com. It was a big investment, I had to buy a PCMIA card reader for my PC. which was running DOS, but Ricoh included a nice photo software program called Matisse. The big deal was that most caneras were VGA at 640 pixels wide, but the Ricoh sensor went to 753 pixels.

I'm sure the Ricoh still works, but I've not used it in at least 10 years. Probably have the box too. I bought a PCMIA holder that took Compact Flash cards, and that was how I used it occasionally in the 21st century. The camera was good for closeups, It had a sliding pane of glass which enabled closer focusing. I may have used the movie mode, but I don't see any in my archives.

I have a lot more cameras that take AA batteries, AAAs are a lot rarer.
And it is a real pleasure for a collector. 😃

But unfortunately many had their own format of batteries and chargers.
Here is a very small part of the chargers that I must use for my 200 cameras.

Yes, Steve's Digicams was one of the first sites on camera equipment.
It is true that the Ricoh at that time had a good reputation for macro photography 👍🏻
