Feature Requests

I kind of agree, but some people like to share / show off their gear list. By having a dedicated section for this the mentioned gear can be kept out of the search index. If people add it to every post, like 'D850 - 24-70E VR', every post of that user will be found when someone searches for either D850 or 24-70 even if the post is about something entirely different. In the end this will make searching for relevant posts on equipment almost impossible. For that reason the signature on DPReview is also kept out of the search index.

I'd like to request that uploaded images are NOT tampered with. At DPReview the images are hauled through some process which makes them less sharp when they appear visible to the crowd. At least, when I tested this a few years back by uploading and saving the same image a few times the decay was clearly visible. If you save and load a jpeg in Photoshop a number of times there's hardly any difference.

I'm not sure if there's anything to gain by processing uploaded images, site safety perhaps, but IMO (which is always Humble and Honest :-) it gets a bit in the way if you try to have a technical discussion about image quality, like when comparing lenses.

Any site feature may be abused by a few. However I think the gear list serves a purpose other than "showing off" (though for some it might serve that purpose also).

The gear list gives a general indication of the orientation, brand familiarity (also potential brand loyalties) and experience of each member. If someone is asking about the Canon R5 and their gear list is all Pentax APS-C dSLRs, one might give different advice than if their gear list is a Canon RPb - for example.

Similarly, if someone is recommending the R5 over the RP and their gear list is all Pentax APS-C dSLRs, one might give their recommendation a different interpretation than if they seem to be highly experienced with Canon R-mount systems.

IOW, it's a way of adding insight that gives some context and maybe nuance to the discussions.

When registering or changing the email address, it does not recognize names with a dot, i.e. name.lastname@mail.com

I’d add captions to a lower-priority, nice-to-have list. I used them on the mothersite to indicate relevant shooting data within an overall narrative.

This "error" was both at the first registration and when trying to change the address after registration.
I am also forced to enter the forum via VPN, because this forum is not loaded directly from Russia (not a serious problem for me).

Thanks for the clarification Alan! Yes, I tried to register with the old names I had on DPREVIEW, but the system didn't tell me about the successful registration and wouldn't let me go any further. Is it possible to delete these accounts?

Not so much a request as an observation: on old dpr when you replied you could change the thread title. This could be useful in threaded view when you went off on a tangent. But most never used it and here no-one seems to miss it
