Subject: Last Saturday's Air Show
Last weekend on Saturday I went to the air show. I brought five cameras and lenses, just to see if I could do it. The two mirrorless cameras and lenses were so small, that they really didn't amount to much. But the DSLR camera with the Tamron 150-600mm lens was by far the biggest burden, but I think I could get some of the best photos from an event like this. I hope you like this series.

Photo No. 12 - I don't know how I did it sometimes, but I managed to capture this jet one more time as it screamed by us. I tried extra hard to keep the plane in the center of the frame as much as possible. It was amazing how much concentration it took to get it just right.

Thanks. The more I go to events like this, the more I try to think of other ways to present the photos. It's fun finding them.
Finally got a hold of the Canon R8. They haven't been available in body only. So I cancelled my pre-order, walked into a local store and they split a kit for me, which was nice of them.
I was surprised that my Tamron 100-400 performed as well as it did!

Having come from an Apsc and MFT background I find the 400mm reach limiting.
I could try a Tamron tc but they are not cheap and I'm thinking of the f11 600 or 800 or potentially saving for a while and maybe get the rf100-500.
We'll see.

They can be found in Europe, mostly in areas with some wood and heath or grass

Are you happy with your new EOS R8? I know it was released relatively recently.
On Monday we went to Schloß Laxenburg (Laxenburg Castle), which is just south of Vienna. We discovered that there are actually several castles in a park of 280 hectares, but didnt have time to visit them all. A future return visit is planned. This is the original castle (Altes Schloß), dating from 1333, and extended in the 17th century. I had the devil of a job trying to make it look perpendicular, and have decided that the bowing on the left hand side is the actual current shape of the wall. I will check this out when we next visit!

It's early days with the R8 but so far it's exceptionally good.
I have the RP so the R8 was a no brainer for me. Familiarity and compatibility were why I jumped as well as a reasonable price (with the 50mm lens on promotion).
I set it up for birds as per a YT video from Wild Alaska and it's worked nicely.
A couple of other YT presenters suggest different settings so down the track I might try those but I know I need take time to get the most out of it.
Battery life isn't anything to write home about but I have plenty of batteries so not a problem. Although I have disabled ALL the power saving options so that probably doesn't help lol.
Conversely, the RP lasts forever on one battery but the use case is different.
The R8 is very light and the texture of the body feels nicer than the RP. The buttons feel better too. Definitely a keeper!

Really like your funfair shots. The colours are great set off against that blue sky, and I like the idea of limiting yourself to one focal length. I might have to give that a go.
