I eventually found my first Wild Rose of the year.

According to "WildBirdScoop", "the American robin is named after the European robin, which is often called a red robin. Both have reddish-orange underparts." So I used the name that we often use, but technically it's an American Robin.

Hi Photobygms. See the explanation I wrote for Dunlin. We call it a Red Robin, but technically it's an American Robin.

I read on Wikipedia that a popular American song "featuring this bird include "When the Red, Red Robin (Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin' Along)", written by Harry M. Woods." Again I just used the term I've always have heard. I never thought it was anything different.

I edited that post with the following: Note that the name "Red Robin" is a colloquial term for the "American Robin".

Wow...you got a great looking photo of a wild rose. I like it. 😀

I know it's a different species, I was just wondering if "Red Robin" was used as an affectionate name, for example, like Robin Redbreast in the UK.

Nice close up of a smart looking bird, with its red breast and black head. That long Tamron lens must be very useful for getting shots like that?

Thanks. I've been using that lens for over 8 years. I had to check my past photos; I didn't realize it was that long. Here's two of them that I took in December of 2014 with my Canon T3i (600D) camera. If the lens was damaged, I would immediately buy another. I use it all of the time.

Thanks. It's tough to take photos of these jets when they are moving so fast. It's challenging especially since that lens is relatively heavy.
