Usernames cannot contain space characters?!

Me too, but in the meantime CamelCase works just fine.

You can use Unicode for transparent / invisible characters.
Search: unicode for transparent character

e.g. invisible-characters.com/

Interesting idea. A potential problem is that name searches may or may not work depending on the search algorithm. And some characters (such as "tab") are treated by the UI as actions rather than as entered data.

But if you want a really unique name then by all means go right ahead and stick a "Mongolian Vowel Separator" into it! 😁

Name_Lastname
Name.Lastname
