    Autumn into Winter

The weather in this little patch of the French Alps has turned towards winter. Several days of rain, punctuated by one glorious autumn day. So we took advantage and hiked up to a favourite high valley. (Altitude about 2500m just above the fresh snowline, starting at 1850m for those who are interested.)

Beautiful shots, I liked the bilberry shot the most and last one's use of DoF, butt all of them are very nice.

Open house, part 3. It's quite long as I was unable to edit it any shorter, but don't worry, it's last one of series so no such long posts in future :D
It was previously factory Põhjala (Nordic), which produced rubber products, such as rubber boots or parts for gas masks. After fall of soviet union it lost its markets and was abandoned, now new owners try to turn it into creativity hub, providing offices for such folk.

Some retained production samples on top if this safe box...

Hunter of Soviets. It is amazing how they can charge simple rubber that much, I think this is a good way to survive for a business.

    This one I say pick

Inside factory hangars. In one hangar was performance hall built with seats and stage, others are mostly empty but can be repurposed, this year's Simpel Session (skateboard and bmx competition) was organized in one of such hangars.
    PA080528_DxO.jpg

Amazing space, it must be hard to warm up though.

Second hand book store. I intend to take one weekend off and dive into this more deeply to discover all those hidden gems somewhere there...
    PA080556_DxO.jpg

    Thats an intersting place.

I like both of these shots a lot! For my taste they could use a bit more dramatic processing, given the industrial setting, but I love the compositions, colors and lines and also think the distortion works very well here. Wouldn't be the same completely straightened.

    Dramatic Rescue
My neighbour was just rescued from the top floor of his smoke filled house!!
Luckily, all part of a Fire-Brigade training exercise.
Here’s just some of the action

Glad to hear nobody was hurt in making these shots 😁
This one is an interesting composition.

I think the garden looks pretty good for late October. I wish mine looked like that!

I like the roofs against the dramatic clouds.

    3. Coppice Stile, Now a Tourist Attraction?

Over the last 12 months a local organisation has taken it upon themselves to erect information signs at some of the moorland farm ruins. Now, I'm all for educating people about the history of these unfortunate victims of progress, but I really wish they'd been a bit more discrete with the size and location of these things as, from a photographic point of view, they ruin the mood and look of these sites. (unedited shot, just to give some context)

    DSC_8554.jpg

    7. Last of the Leaves at Drinkwater's

The mature trees that line the track as it runs past the Drinkwater's ruin are looking a bit sparse at the moment and, hey, there's another one of those signs by the wall.

    DSC_8590.jpg

Signs like this are a real annoyance. And obtrusive lighting fittings. I often think the people who install them have no soul.
    Drinkwater's looking great as usual.
PS Clocks go back tonight 😉

    Autumn into Winter

You seem to be getting great light there. I appreciate the hiking details too.

The light is gorgeous at this time of year. We were last there in midsummer, and I remember noticing how much more difficult it was to work with. Latitude is almost exactly 45 degrees, so midsummer midday sun is quite high (to us northerners!)

I'm glad it's not just me. I really wish they would simply leave sites like this alone. Fortunately they didn't go as far as installing lights, thank goodness.

Er, deliberate mistake just to test who's paying attention. That's my story and I'm sticking to it ;-p

    One Last Evening Walking

That sounds like a bit of an ominous title, but since full time working from home became a thing for our studio, I've been able to regularly enjoy evening walks in the local countryside during the working week. However, the clocks go forward this weekend here in the UK for archaic reasons, meaning it'll either be going dark or actually be dark by the time I've finished work for the next few months which rules out heading up onto the moors for a few hours after work until the evenings start to get longer again next year.

Thanks Steve for another chance to join you virtually on one of your interesting walks.

    2, 4, 8 & 9 are my picks
With number 8. Sunset at Drinkwater's being my favourite, lovely mood depicted with those colours

Yes, any after work walks will be all dark around here too, now that the clocks have gone back all over Europe.

    Creative as ever!
Compared to your usual very smooth bokeh, it looks a bit more nervous (for your standards) in the 3rd shot

Great series. Glad he was ok.

Well everything went well, it was only a practice for the younger ones in our local Fire Brigade. Nice to see these young guys suddenly doing grown up things. They love it :-)
