    Back to the Dogs

Some of this week's dog photos.

Island Punch with appropriately themed neckwear. (The cropping is strange because of some bizarre constraints on the images that get used on the adoption website.)

Curtis with one of our volunteers.

Sassy with another volunteer. (One of my favorite pics from this week.)

    And finally, Coffee

Some thoughts about what do to now that dpreview has a new lease on life. Although I appreciate the effort that has gone into dprevived, the UI is a nightmare, especially for the "This Week" thread. I will go wherever the group goes, but my preference would be to go back to dpreview.

Good morning to everyone wherever you are in the world...so DPR is not going away after all? That presents a moral dilemma, the old home was much easier to navigate in a threaded format but these guys have worked so hard (and no doubt spent a lot of money) to get this site up and running. A penny for your thoughts?

Since I'm working hard to get threaded view going, it would be a shame if suddenly all the people that wanted it go.
But in the ned forums are open spaces, it's not up to the management to dictate what people do or don't do in them (within obvious limits) so you must do wht you think is best.
You'll likely get more traffic on DPReview, that's just a fact.
And there's nothing to stop it being hosted both sites, some photo threads that moved are doing that. One of the things that has evolved is that there is a fair number of people here that don't want to return to DPReview, so we're serving different communities.

A sudden accumulation of pollen (from pine trees) appeared on Lake Huron this summer, site not seen in 25 years. Probably global warming is the cause...

Fascinating. Not good for me, very allergic to pine / conifer pollen.

I do miss the old threaded format, but I believe they are working to improve the offering here, so I'm happy to keep posting my over processed snaps while I stick around to see what they come up with, plus it would be a bit rude and inconsiderate to just abandon this site after all of the effort that's been made setting it up and improving it.

Although the post editor can be a bit clunky to work with at times, I do like the way you can just insert Markdown annotations for headings and stylisation. It's probably not to everyone's taste, but once you get into the flow of things it can be quite a nice way to work.

Agree on all points. I like being able to edit something after it has received a reply too.

Very good. And one of those shots that can trick the brain into seeing the escalator coming down or coming up. The pictures are what gives the game away.

First off, I hope you stay here, because I like a few others got banned in the dying hours of DPR, by a particularly vindictive Mod in a bout of score settling. I re-joined as usual with a new name, but I cannot be bothered with always having to be careful with what I write. I believe they have a threaded view in the works here. I also have doubts about the new owners, so I would say it might be best to see how the wind blows for a few months yet. The guys who got this site up and running deserve our support.

    Now the serious stuff.

A huge derelict industrial site on the other side of Reggio is slowly being repurposed as a technological hub. The "Reggiana" was once Reggio's biggest employer. They made all sorts of things from railway rolling stock, cranes, and during the war, Italy's answer to the Spitfire. Years of mismanagement, mostly during the years when it was state owned, slowly ran the company into the ground. Much of our manufacturing industry was founded by ex employees of this colossus. The still derelict part of this site is the home to Reggio's drug dealers, another florid industry.

I had a wander around the new repurposing of the old industrial sheds. I am sure the old steel structures will outlive the sandwich panels and plasterboard ticky tacky boxes that look good right now because they are still new. Still I had fun with this different for me, Architectural subject.

I like this shot. Leading lines and vanishing point.
I would like more contrast or a color version, something to draw the eye more because the leading lines kinda disappear into the even tones.
The image seems too still. I would love to see some movement.
    What do you think?
