I was puzzling this morning, trying to figure out why I would have dropped the aperture down to 5.6 in the second picture, then I remembered that I was fiddling around with he Kelvin temperature. I had dropped it down to about 4600 or 4900K or something, trying to draw out the blue in the sky. It gets confusing at different times when the adjustments are made with the command dial vs. the joystick. I think I wound up changing the aperture and forgot to set it back.

Subject: Stage Performance with the Canon RP

Last evening I got a chance to take pictures at a stage performance. I actually went to two of them. At the beginning each time they said that photography was not allowed because it would disturb the people who were watching the program. But I switched my Canon RP to silent shutter, did not use flash, and turned the LCD screen up towards the ceiling so it could not be seen (like what we see with cell phones). Both times no-one said I could not take pictures as there was no disturbing light or sound coming from the camera. That was pretty cool. I thought it was a shame to not to be able to document this wonderful activity. Anyway, here's one at ISO10000. Maybe I'll show more next week.

There's some limitations with using the silent shutter with the Canon RP. I could explain if anyone is interested. There's also one other workaround that maybe I'll use next time, so I can get faster shutter speeds.

@Digirame you could go even higher with the ISO I think, it's a nice picture and something different that we saw today 😂

It started with some clouds but the weather did get better and better.
Only thing that we didn't like was the wind. We had to ride against it 😑
Grabbed the Eos R, the RF 16mm, RF 28mm and the (big) Sigma 60-600s and used them during the bike ride:

Thanks for the comment about the Canon RP stage performance photo. When I used the silent shutter option with the Canon RP, the settings are automatic. So, I could not change the ISO values (that I am aware of). With the workaround information that someone gave me this is what I would do. I have that setup in my menu as a custom tab so I can find it quickly. I would enable the focus bracketing, pick two shots (that's the minimum), set the focus increment to the smallest and disable the exposure smoothing. Or should I have enabled the exposure smoothing? I am not sure what is best with the smoothing part.

Is there a better way to achieve a silent shutter with the Canon RP, and where we can pick our own ISO values, F-stops and shutter speeds? I think some of the other R series cameras allow for better controls when using the silent shutter.

I'm happy with what I got with these photos with a refurbished camera that only cost $539 (USD). I noticed that the Canon website for us listed that same camera for $549 today (also refurbished). I'm looking forward to the next Canon R series upgrade where I can do even better during stage performances.

Oh one more...next time I can completely shut off the LCD screen and use the viewfinder only in an auditorium like that, instead of flipping the LCD screen up. That option is also listed in my custom tab. Also...it would have been better to have had a lens like the Canon RF 24-240mm lens. I'll have to save up for that one.

Did you take these photos in the morning:? Typically for us in the summer the morning clouds burn off and we are left with sunny skies in the afternoon. I assume that happens for you too sometimes.

Ah yes, riding against the wind...not fun. But riding with the wind on the return trip must have been better. 😀

The F5.6 works well in the second picture. Maybe you accidentally used Tv mode, when you got the F5.6 setting.

It's all between 11.30 and 14.30ish (GMT) we do like to sleep in during the weekends😆
Well I did not check how the wind would be, otherwise I might have reversed the planned route.

Thanks Steve, I only wish I did had a bit more time when I shot these. Didn't lower the ISO and changed the aperture to get more movement in the train.
didn't notice the train(approaching with about 140kmh)was that near already while being on our bikes 😕
