That is interesting. It's my general understanding that house cats are not fast enough to catch squirrels. But someone told me a long time ago that they knew someone that had a cat on a farm and that cat could catch the squirrels just the same as if they were rats or mice. That's just something I've heard. Other than that, I don't know a whole lot about cats. So in your case, I would think it would depend. If the cats were so inclined that could attack the ground hogs like they were squirrels, rats or mice but maybe they won't. Let us know what happened. 😀

The groundhog is bigger and heavier, but also slower and more timid. When confronted with danger, it's nature is to run away.

I don't know what it would do if cornered. I wouldn't want to find out. Their teeth are formidable. I haven't seen these barn cats hunt as a pack yet. They seem to be solitary hunters. I also don't know what the mother groundhog will do if the babies are threatened. I don't know if she will defend them or not.

It 's going to be interesting to see things play out.

No groundhogs where we live 😟 But I've seen them on different locations.
Well at least some sort of family.
When we're in Whistler Canada we spotted the Whistlers (grey marmots) and we spotted it's european family the Murmeltiere(alpine marmot) a lot at various spots in the Alps (Switserland and Austia) 😁

And a few from our hike on saturday, both with a light setup, both only two bodies and two lenes.
I opted for the 5DIV and 6DII with a EF16-35 F2.8L mk II and the EF 24-70 F2.8L MkII
And she took the R and RP with one of our RF 24-240s and the RF14-35 F4L

Steve, you are right, They can be funny, and those in Whistler are used to the tourists, we could get very close.
You seem to have the same nice weather like we had today and yesterday 😁

CPL/polarizer filter can do nice things with B/W 👍

Seeing your pictures makes us assume that you walked for a long distance. How many miles or kilometers was that? I really like the sixth picture with the insect. It looks nice with that yellow-green background. What type of insect is it?

I like the green and blue color combinations in the first two pictures. Everything looks so fresh and green. You must have gotten a lot of rain lately. It's nice to see the sunshine following a good soaking rain.

@Digirame, it was a short 8,5 km hike 😁
That insect is a Cockchafer/maybeetle, they only are found in Europa as far as I know. This was a smaller one actually, I've seen bigger ones up to 3cm long.
They love oak tree leaves 😃

Those Whistlers were getting ready for their winter hibernation (I think), since we visited Canada in late August and September
