No need for clarification, 'merican news stories in all flavors have been global for many years.
The internet took care of that.

Maybe should just rename this thread the “Off Topic Forum” and it can go on forever….

Well, some were responding as if I was actually considering drinking a Bud Light, which put me into defcon 7.

Apparently 76 countries world wide drive on the left. Canada changed sides - which is brave of them!

    @Mackiesback

Yes, I know that Mac, but isn’t it best to let folk have a normal beer discussion without highlighting that… it may have been a reference to a silly (not very important) news story.

oh... DEFCON is always written in capital letters.
    Been there, done that !

    lol

Then maybe you need help. A social skills coach would be a possibility. Reads to me like a back-handed way of insulting someone. If you are really concerned about the mental health of another party what you don't is act as amateur psychiatrist on a public forum. Really all you're doing there is saying 'you're crazy nuts', just wrapping it up in what you think is more acceptable language and putting on a pretence of being concerned, when I'm guessing you're anything but. Or friend Mako would certainly have pulled that post and given you a warning if it had been brought to his attention - or I don't know my Mako.

One positive about a new forum, rising primarily from the ashes, or membership, of another forum is that the organizers are already overwhelmingly aware of what was going on with the other site(s). They are already aware of malcontents, complainers, bullies and inappropriate posters/members. I'm confident that Bob, Alan, et al., will see that appropriate moderation is administered ... moderately. Additionally, all the other 99.9% of visitors and newly registered, also know the pre-existing problem-children. I have no problem with anyone in need of "parenting" to be handed down timeouts of varying lengths, up to and including permanent bans. No one has a right to anything on a private platform - but participate in accordance within established mores. The rules, and subsequent enforcement of those rules, are the purview of those who write the rules.

Maybe Alan should rename the "Open Talk" forum the "Open Brawl Forum" an make it a rules-free fight club for those who just want to let go of some steam off.

As a side note, I believe there is no point in highlighting the latest posts on the front page, I see "mako" or "triangle of exposure" every time I sign in for the last 2 weeks.

Sure, some people like an argument. Some people just get into them. Some people like observing them. Ands some peopel like starting arguments by complainin g about other people arguing. Takes all sorts.

Maybe people just ignore threads they don't want to look at, instead of looking at them then posting that they don't want to look at them like, as the saying goes, a stuck record.
Anyhow, I've fixe your problem about having to look at Mako's name.

Thread title has been changed from Does DPReview's "Mako2011" have any powers on this site?.

Anyhow, since this thread will now drift into obscurity, I'll give the correct answer, direct from the horse's (or maybe shark's) mouth -
The correct answer is zero, since the thread would have been deleted at the first post.

It appears that you have a very short memory. You even replied to mine. The cynic in me would suggest that that's deliberate, in an attempt to create more controversy.

"So how do you think about the "N-word"?

Interesting that you should bring that up, in the context of this thread. Let's take a real quick look, a thread started that quickly descended into the calling for the lynching of someone, by a faceless mob, feeling they've been wronged. Substantially. Enough so that they should lose any and all their rights. He he he he.

interesting that you deflect. This sub-subject arose after someone made a plea for what I'd call common courtesy and got a reply containing the snowflake word. Now I got the impression that you had no problem with that."
