Of course the vast majority of people would treat someone they never met before with respect.
But that is not the case here because Mako2011 is at least somewhat known to members through his interactions with them at dpreview. Therefore it is totally reasonable for members who have had dealings with Mako2011 to decide for themselves how much respect they will give him here on dprevived based on their experiences with him at dpreview should he decide to become a member here.
If I used your logic then that means just because I have never met DonaldB in person then I should respect him here at dprevived........yeah right 😉 ............I think hell will probably freeze over first 😊

In the case where members know Mako2011 through their dealings with him at dpreview and for whatever reason have little respect for him, then yes it is totally reasonable that Mako2011 would have to earn those members' respect back if he was interested in rebuilding bridges here on dprevived.
If they had reason to disrespect me from past experiences then I wouldn't be surprised. If I had never dealt with them before then it would reflect very poorly on them as a person.
I would like to hope so. You better do, before "tearing down" existing somewhat working structure. Having such premise would be just lack of thinking it through. Not having one looks to me much more dangerous than what admins here do.
All I can say after reading a bit of this thread, is by crikey some of you people know how to hold a grudge. Just remember, that's eating up only one person

The moderators/facilitators need to be members who really want the role for the right reasons and not for some ego trip and/or power grab. They will need to actually believe in the forum rules and guidelines in how to apply them.
It's very clear to me that many members, including me, want to get away from the iron fist rule of some moderators on dpreview and any hint that the same type of moderation/facilitation has leaked/snuck into dprevived will not be tolerated and put up with by many here.
Once the op's question was answered, what would be the need to keep the thread open?
I sense from some of the posts that some members' perception of Bob has been tarnished since the thread was allowed to continue and there are other threads at the moment where members can let out their frustrations with Mako2011.
Yes that is true to some extent but in a conversation with Bob in a PM, at one stage I mentioned that imo the moderation pendulum at dprevived has swung too far in the opposite direction from where it was at dprevived.
DP Review at one time opened Off Topic forum to discuss anything not related to photography. After not long this forum became so nasty that DPR had to close it. But some people became forum pros making thousands if not tens of thousands posts. Now look here which threads gathered most posts. Why not to learn from other's mistakes rather than make same mistakes on your own?
That's actually software driven and I discovered it the other Day. I use dashes (minus sign) to separate some of my images with titles. I did that the other day and huge fonts appeared.

Yep there it is again, so it's not actually the posters fault at all. It's to do with the formatting used here when using the minus/dash sign. ;-) It might happen with other symbols as well with larger fonts again. Not sure unless you folks try it.
yes, it is the poster's fault because the poster has the option to edit that styling out in the post editor using the escape character which will allow the minus signs to be displayed without the large font size for the letters.
Whether they choose to edit the styling out or not is their choice to make.
