I took these at the Marine Nature Study Area in Oceanside, NY on a lovely spring day.

2) X-H2S NIKON AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR lens 500mm f/5.6 1/6000s 400 ISO 0.0 EV
3) X-H2S NIKON AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR lens 500mm f/5.6 1/2500s 400 ISO +0.7 EV

Good shots. I prefer anything that doesn't have a blue sky background, so I'll default to #1, though #3 is nice.
So I know nothing about Fuji, but am I correct in assuming that you're AF'ing an adapted Nikon 500Pf to get those shots?? Unless they move more predicable in a nature study area, terns are not an easy capture. A light body and lens can only help in that, but still...........

Yes the Nikon 500 PF focuses and tracks great using a Fringer brand lens adapter on Fuji bodies. The park is a nature preserve, the terns are wild birds and as you state not the easiest subject yet with practice it gets easier.
