yes I'm not sure what is detracting, but my 'lenses' look less like lenses than Arvo's. Maybe mine are too fat (not tall enough), and the flat top and bottom edges not pronounced enough.

Even if Gill Sans isn't the ticket I still have some basic aversion to calligraphic fonts (and serif fonts) in this context. But I may be just one in a million.

I don't want to insert myself here as you clearly are on a great path already. I really love your idea with the lenses in the letter d and p, and I'm sure you're able to come up with something simple and effective, which highlights that. This is where I went with the idea:

I'm sure there's a significantly better way to do it, but perhaps the lenses in blue might be something to consider?

to be honest so do I.

Problem is, once you've seen the 'trick' of the lenses in dp it's hard to go back to dp just as pure text. We all want more bells and whistles on our cameras for instance (actually most of us don't, but we get them anyway).

Could be that the text version is just text - or just about, and then there's a more compact logo - with the lenses (which would also need an R in it).

I'll need to out of this for a few days, too much other stuff on, and I expect you'll be glad of a break from me! - and this never ending thread ;-)

Great I was waiting for something fresh! This is like a flower rising, a rotating world at the centre, has overall triangular height, I really like this.

My only blink judgment, is I feel like the 'I' is being pushed down (I know it is - and cleverly) but I feel sorry for it - as if it's being repressed through being depressed. Could learn to love the I pushed-down I though.

Anyway maybe the best yet IMO.

Something about the dp though, I know the stylisation is based on one one my pngs but something about the whole thing reminds me of a company involved with soap (possibly the choice of dark blue-green for REVIVED on white), cotton hand towels, or maybe wind energy. More clean and stimulating than photographic. I still like it though, feels protective.

I DO HATE that contraption, as I hated them when they started to appear in 1990.

Please don't go back to the '90 !

    Simple and clean.
We, for sure, don't need to sell nuthing

  • April 5, 2023, 10:13 p.m.

I like your no no-nonsense attitude, and quite true we don't need cracker toys here!

How do you like simplejoy's version above? The lens trick isn't apparent there.

What I get from these contraptions is >revived< the meaningless word in the photography world.

We have a foundation here that will stay with us till DPRvv is online:
and that's the Forum from where we all came.

Otherwise We can Ignore It and choose DigiPhotoRev

    ...or stay where we started.
In three years or less, we can change the logo without any fuss

    N O W
we need a pretty solid idea to Rev up the ambiance we were used to.

We have nothing yet. Thanks to @bobn2 we have hopes.

We can work with him to make a >>>> NON-EXISTING something, >>>>>> into something existing.

That can be obtained NOT using any distracting frill.

WE ARE, ALL TOGETHER, REBUILDING FROM SCRATCH

That's the reason I can't see the "lenses" things to help us in the next 12 months.

It will be a difficult path for all the people involved, and not short troubles await us.

Stay simple, avoid hurdles, that's what I may suggest

I get the 'keep it simple' attitude. I still like the lens idea by lefteye and think it has the potential to be implemented properly.

Here are a couple of different ideas - some trying to highlight the 'new home' or 'elevating the community' aspect...

    live.staticflickr.com/65535/52797568249_7ef1e8bc71_o.jpg

I'll happily remove myself from the equation here though. Don't want to distract from what's currently the consensus.Keep up the great work!

Hey no! - you've a great graphic sense and skill (better than me I reckon).

As to the 'I' additions, 1. if it were green could look like a tree company (still does in a Norwegian way), 2. ouch!, 3. Big Ben tower, 4. the best, though the lowercase 'i' might seems to ape Apple i devices too much? - and the 'mountain peak' looks a bit like a outdoor winter equipment company. The point about having a 'graphic' centralised over the 'i' makes the most of what's already there, the symmetry of E-V-I-V-E, so your instinct is good.

Currently I like your previous suggestion of the 'spherical' dp over REVIVED, or no.4 above. But maybe we're not quite there yet.

One thing to experiment with are the slightly grey pastel colours, possibly too soft and friendly - lack some of the clarity & contrast us photographers often strive for (it might only need a subtle tweak not a total paradigm change). Also I like your previous dp over REVIVED better on black than on white. It might be the case the 'logo' can be on black (if it looks better that way) even when used in a light theme, exact same logo for each.

I think there's a slight feeling brewing here, that any decision about the actual name for this site and any logo might be deferred for a year. Once a logo is made, like the ^ above the 'i' it'll stick - but then ^ might not suit a new name.

First we need to decide are we are all generally ok with dpREVIVED - for a year or more. If so, we could just give the name a considered appearance, as we/you are, rather than stick with the upper/lower case of DPRevived over that period.

I do get the sense that most people prefer dpREVIVED than DPRevived though, so that's one thing.

The problem here is that everyone wont agree on the same thing, so we need some means of officially declaring this is going on, and give some choices to the community, a poll, ask for their input etc - but then it might go crazy with suggestions, or we might end up with the most complex 'logo' for obscure reasons. So maybe whatever the team are thinking is best, and at some point a plan will emerge.

For now, I don't see why we cant just keep batting this back and forth here, the ideas are getting explored and developing (though maybe not in a totally linear or serial fashion, toward a single answer).

  • April 6, 2023, 11:29 a.m.

At some stage we will have a collective way of deciding this kind of matter. As you say, in the meantime it's all good fun to keep discussing the possibilities.

    Fun, yes.

I think Bobn2 came up with a good name but it is very close to the original which Amazon may have a problem with ,but if that day does come that a letter from a court arrives my pick would be a natural one Digital Photography Redo ,just my 2cents

I can’t see that Amazon would have any claim here - there’s a superficial similarity but in truth it’s a different name with a different meaning, to state the obvious “revived” is not the same as “review” - it’s not even the same tense!

I think we might need to make sure the logo doesn’t end being too similar - if there was any suspicion we were deliberately making the words look the same that could be a problem - but otherwise it seems fair game.

I do think the shorter version of “DPRev” that’s been mentioned might be more problematic though.

another idea came ... With a double:

Digital Photo Revolution & DPR Evolution

    or if you prefer
    DPRevo

  • April 7, 2023, 7:53 a.m.

cool look and great skills - almost an infinity sign,

BUT, I'm realising by abstracting dp as a graphic further and further away from it being just dp, it's immediacy as text is lost and with it that it's a clear abbreviation - for 'digital photography'. Which then results in extra emphasis on REVIVED. Which means nothing by itself. We've got an abstract logo then REVIVED.

dp means something, so maybe we're going up the garden path meddling with dp too much.

To me, the biggest step forward was at the start, changing DPRevived to dpREVIVED.

Then as a 'text logo' we just need to make it look good, not too abstract. There is the possibility of needing a graphic logo as well (which might be worth considering at the same time) - and could be more stylised.

  • April 7, 2023, 3:04 p.m.

Version with full text - this does not need readable dp or DP anymore. A little bit NG-ish, but not much.
    Using Gill now :)

    @ArvoJ

    This is getting close.
The logo looks okay, but the words are too tall / not balanced (competing with the height of the logo), and maybe the font is a bit on the skinny side.

    As you may already know...
it would be best to make a Vector graphic in Adobe Illustrator or Affinity Designer.
