Up until a few years ago, whenever I took one of those "once in a lifetime" trips, I always took my main camera (currently an Olympus EM5mk3). But for our last few trips I only took my RX100mk5 and my current iPhone (now the iPhone 14) and have been extremely happy with the results from all three trips.
Some shots from our recent trip to Israel/Jordan. _DSC5279.jpeg_DSC4755.jpeg_DSC5228.jpeg_DSC5005.jpeg_DSC4791.jpeg

    Nice pictures!

I have an RX100VA and am amazed at the quality in comparison with my Canon R6. I have posted some examples on the Sony forum here.

The Canon is unquestionably easier to use, in terms of the knobs dials and menus, and I can cover a wider range of focal lengths; but the Sony is much lighter, of course!
