Unless you’re trying to mimic window lighting (or need a sharp corner). LOL. It’s endless. I used rectangular SB’s for years to goo effect but, to your point, a nice round catchlight is quite lovely.

In my opinion, a "Parabolic softbox"....really is a contradictio in terminis....a contradiction in terms.
A softbox is meant to scatter light around. A parabolic reflector reflects light in a specific direction (and can be used as a softbox by using diffusions/cloth/anything)

So, I think a parabolic reflector can be used as a softbox if you wanted to, but a softbox can never be used as a true parabolic reflector.
I don' t trust any company that advertise light shapers as parabolic softboxes.
In my opinion (only based on user reports/review/internet information), there are a few major brands for Parabolic light shapers:
    Broncolor / Briese / Parabolix.
The first 2 are probably the best money can buy, but also the most expensive options. Parabolix comes VERY close in results for a fraction of the price.
Luis Gabriel did a very good review on FM a couple of months ago. Worth reading/watching.

As a beginner in studio lighting/ studio photography with strobes, I also posted on the DPR forum (about this subject). Might be interesting as well:

agree. none of them are a true parabolic shape ,its all just marketing. they look good and if used correctly give a nice controlled light. no one makes any good brackets to support them off a stand so i made my own that counter balances the strobe + deep softbox.

    Hello folks,
With your help, I bought my first parabolic softbox. Since I have Neewer Q3 lights, I bought their 37 inch box. It has 2 diffusers and a grid. Very easy to setup. Great build quality. Reviews said the color was good. Couldn’t get a 48 because I’m in a wheelchair. Neewer is doing great in this area. I have a Glow on order.

Maybe I already have. I have 3 soft boxes and 2 umbrellas. It’s all for fun and it keeps me busy. So far I Iike the Glow Deep Parabolic Quick Softbox. 38 inch. I’m in a wheelchair so I can’t handle much bigger. Thank you for your advice.

    Hi X-ray,
I’m setting up my Glow 38 inch this morning. Which white diffuser cloth is the inner diffuser? Is it the one that snaps in, and the outer one attaches to the outer Velcro where the grid also goes? Thank you.

My Neewer Q3 don’t have a round head, and there’s not one available.
