Swirly bokeh of an diaphragmless Helios 44-2 lens with the reversed front element.
The lens' focusing ring was stiff, and the diaphragm blades were oily. I cleaned the lens (this is my first attempt to clean a vintage lens, by the way!) but I messed with the diaphragm. I decided to remove the diaphragm altogether, as using wide open f/2 was possibly the best way to use this lens anyway. Later, I wanted to give a go to reversing the front element, which is very simple. I tried to create something meaningful and different.

I am also wondering how I can fix the blades. Basically, there are two small metal bits attached to each end of every blade. Two of the blades' metal bits became loose. I can’t get them reattached to the blades.

Lovely pictures, but I can't help with the diaphrams - sorry.

It's best to ask this kind of question to Gemini.

I came across a Facebook post asking for advice on the same problem. It suggested using watchmakers’ tools to rivet it. I’m not sure I can fix it but it doesn’t really matter. I’ll just keep using it fully open.
