I’m (probably) just about to buy an adapted Fuji XE-1. I have the 10-24, 18-55, 55-200, 23mm f/2, 35mm f/1.4 (and a Voigtlander 50mm f/2 APO). I’ve had problems with hot spots on other adapted cameras and lenses (Nikon) and was wondering if anyone has any experience with using the Fuji lenses for IR photography.

Here's a link to Rob Shea Photography, who has tested many Fujifilm as well as other brand lenses. Looks like your two primes will work. The XF55-200 is acceptable at f/8 and lower. Your other two zooms are not recommended; according to this website.

Thanks - this is really helpful. Google didn’t find it when I did a search…. I may reconsider the purchase since none of the zooms are suitable.

The issue gets down to the index of refraction ( more or less the amount that a piece of glass bends light ) is a function of wavelength. Therefore it is not really possible to optimize a lens for both both visible and IR simultaneously. In general the more highly corrected for the visible spectrum the more glass elements required and the poorer performance in the IR. I would start out by looking at lenses with fewer elements and groups. For the most part that eliminates zooms which require a lot of glass to support the zoom function and potentially lenses like the newer 18 f1.4 and 33 f1.4. I think the 35 f1.4, 23 f2 and Voigt 50 f2 would support IR fine. I suspect the zooms won't. I would also think that some of the older M mount lenses from the era of the 60's through the 80's would also be great candidates.

Even Fujifilms develops multispectral lenses to support multispectral cameras for industrial applications and multispectral imaging from space.

In the end, I did buy the camera and have so far used it successfully with the 35mm f/1.4. I’ll try it with the other primes (including the Samyang 8mm) in due course. Not being able to use it with the zooms won’t be a major problem.
