My son [in London UK] sent me a photograph from this establishment in Covent Garden:

Anyone here try this eye-art? Anyone use a macro for the same effect?

I've only tried shooting my eye up close once and not in order to get the clearest image possible:

I don't think the idea of capturing one's unique iris is a bad one - it certainly is something personal and important to many people... however (while creative) I don't really like the presentation and find it a bit over the top. But to each their own I guess.

Isolating the iris and displaying it in a varied fashion appeals to many folks apparently. Some of the combinations look interesting in their own right. I believe some of the appeal is when spouses irises are combined. The 'window to the soul' aspect is also of interest.

All my life I have loved to use my brain to shoot the eyes "out of normal" for handsomeness or specific and special colors.

Alas you do not have many opportunities to stop a human being, and ask:
"Please, can I shoot your eyes?"

    ( Really, that doesn't work! )

Indeed - very well presented there on stage! I feel like it can work great in such a context.

If we're including more experimental eye-photography... I certainly got an interest in that 😉:
