I,m stuck here at home in convalescence, with not much else to do than "cazzegare" on the internet in the usual places.

This particularly moronic post caught my eye. The usual "if it is not needed for my photography, then it is a waste of time and money post".

I started this thread, which should be fun

I got banned from DPR once for extolling the virtues of shift lenses, as it caused a lot of anger for some weird reason I could never fathom out.

No, it is all about the way some people on a certain photo forum put down other peoples choices, as you can see in my first link.

Buy a high MP camera and sombody will tell you that 20MP, or even 6MP is fine and you have wasted your money. You wasted your money buying shift lenses, when you can do it in post is a mantra I get thrown at me when I make posts about these lenses.

Already on the second link, I am told it is just advertising and marketing that drive MP camera sales.

Everybody does different types of photography and needs or wants more or less sophisticated equipment, to suit what they do. I carefully chose the camera format I use, did a trail run with cheap SH gear, before buying a high MP FF camera. I read on a certain photo forum, that I chose Foolframe, as a small format sensor is good enough.

My title is a provocation, but the argument I set out above is a bit more serious. Let's see how my little experiment in the second link pans out.

Oh dear, I guess if she reads the Thread here dedicated to DPR moderation, its another lifetime ban.

Funny thing is that I do not care anymore.

Do you have nine dpreview lives as well? 😀 You seem to have seven left.

Less, less, I have used five so far. I need to make a new Email account somewhere. I will try to set one up with a different IP as they pick up all your old accounts.

Or maybe I will just give up.

Which of the linked posts is moronic, or are they both?

As a hobbyist myself, I have a question mainly aimed at hobby photographers. When do you need more than 20 MP's in the final, cropped image? Can you name any occasion when more MP's would have been absolutely necessary? I ask out of pure curiosity as I myself cannot think of any such occasion, [but] 24 MP's are sometimes mentioned as insufficient in a camera.

I never have, never wll need it, even when a working paid photog, nor did any of the other paid working photogs I worked with, nor did any of us shoot RAW, this high MP Hi-Tec gear paradoxically is for hobbyists with spare cash.

The first is a reasonable question. Maybe he is right, or for his uses he is right.

The second is the moron, who thinks that only his uses count, and that high MP sensors are a waste of money. It is the attitude that pisses me off.

The title was "Why 100MP+ MF"

It was a one line post.

"Why do some areas of photography like fashion and architecture, use 100MP+ medium format cameras?"

Hardly something to get the smelling salts out. But the question is worth asking.

    Dealing with Morons

I would just say that we should all try to be more tolerant and understanding. I think we all behave like morons at one time or another (I am including myself in that).

Give the morons the benefit of the doubt, it may be you next.

I've been told that modern phone cameras can do anything a real camera can do, but better and more conveniently. To which I answer:

    Show me

    5D, ISO 400, 15 seconds, 2000mm, f/7.
