Of course, I anticipate a negative response.

I am placing on record that scrolling down through a page full of idiots in motion is no joke to this 83-yr old man.

Asking the Dynamic Duo perp to quit has had no effect.

Having them paused by default would be good enough for me. There are valuable uses for the animated GIFs, as not everything can be demonstrated statically.

Just downloaded and added "gif blocker" extension for chrome and Danno/David's gif's don't even show. Love it :)

Singling someone out because they annoy you is nasty, vindictive and not cool.

It has had no effect because you don’t get to decide for everyone else whether the gifs bother them or not πŸ˜€

Some people don't like them, some do.

The simple solution if you don't like them is to simply block them instead of making a fool of yourself trying to impose your preference on everyone else πŸ˜„πŸ˜Ž

That is the way it should be in fairness to everyone πŸ™‚

The sensible answer is that we can't bad animated gifs (stupid or otherwise). All I can ask is that people use them sensibly. If I am told of ones that may offend (and it is my decision as to 'offend', so please lets not go down that route), then they will get moved.

It is not about them being offensive or not - they make this site a bit close to one of those full of ads and self-playing videos, hard to navigate through, and hard to discover the real content, if any. Not that this site is there already but the look and feel should be one of the priorities, IMO.

Also, going back to the request for the ignore functionality: if done a-la-dpreview, without having to be exactly the same, ignoring a user means you do not get notifications, or the equivalent of that here, when he responds to a thread. It means a cleaner thread view, much more compactified (that can be done by ignoring just one user here!). This would make this site more appealing to many of us, I guess, but certainly to me. Also, it could reduce the back and forth with a few prolific people here, lowering the temperature.

A wishlist feature to take the idea up a notch for me would be the ability to only hide posts between specific pairs or groups of people, who are at their most immature and inefficient of screen real estate when they are doing their tit-for-tat duels.
