Lots in focus, but I love the blur - very cool effect!

I had forgotten about this shot until it appeared this morning on my computer screen (the background image very slowly cycles through a selection of my images):

Although this was taken several years ago, it well represents our recent weather!

Thank you! Even though there's a lot in focus here, it also shows a beautiful blurred background across the frame! 👍

I'm sure the rain offers many interesting possibilities for completely oof shots or with barely anything in focus. I've never tried it myself though...

I've tried three or four times, from my car. It was more difficult than I imagined, because of needing the "right" subject and distance, and choosing how much or what to keep in focus. Going all the way out of focus sounds ideal for next time!

Here is a quick edit from a small file (the raw file went into the trash - I vow to stop doing that!). This spring on a rainy day I parked in front of forsythia bush that was just beginning to bloom. Rain was fairly strong, so it took only a few moments to cover my windshield. I've bumped colors quite a bit, but this is still a very tame version compared to what I posted to another forum 😁

Very beautiful - excellent work! I love the tones, great work on that.

I've recently tried a (very old and uncoated) lens which is incredibly fun for oof experiments, a Shot with a Dallmeyer Pentac 4 1/4 in f/2.9

It‘s a really interesting shot - great use of the reflection. Is it pretty much SOOC? I wonder how it would look like with some more clarity, contrast.

You seem to make great use of your lenses with long focal lengths btw.! Is it out of necessity or do you prefer working that way? I‘ve neglected my longer lenses so far, but I‘m sure it can open up completely new possiblilities and perspectives…

I'll try to post one or two really oof shots soon, because there obviously are more of the 'almost' or motion blur category right now. It's interesting however to see many different kinds of shots without a lot in focus and how well many of them still work.

Because of an awesome shot by @LouHolland in the weekly C&C thread, I was reminded of a very interesting thread in another forum, where the premise was to show captures where everything is (ideally intentionally but of course happy accidents count as well) completely out of focus.

So if you have got some interesting images to share which fall into that category, I would appreciate it, if you would share them here with everyone!

I think the photo below is the only photo I've ever taken that was intentionally out of focus:

    OOF.jpg

Also, while neither intentional nor out of focus, the photo below, which I only took for white balance purposes, appears to be an OOF photo, and, for whatever reason, I liked it:
