Sorry about the brain cramp re motion blur vs. out of focus šŸ˜ I'm finding a lot of interest and inspiration in the creativity shared in your thread, so thank you! I believe this one is 99% out of focus - if my aging eyes don't deceive. I was shooting directly into the early morning sun, through a bush covered with dew.

It's fine, don't worry about it.

The most usual case you can accidentally take completely out of focus shot is when you are taking close-up or macro photos.
At this time it was not an accident. I tried to take out of focus shot.

A Canon Macro Lens 35mm/2.8 focused to very near, ~1:1 magnification, picture taken from much longer distance.

Although the exif data says 50mm, this was taken with the Meyer-Optik Gƶrlitz Orestor 100 2.8 (early version)

    Regards,
    Joe.

Face or Vase?! The first time I looked, I saw a white "push to launch" button raised above the darker orange circle. Just now, scrolling down, I see the white hot fuel burner inside a cylinder. Wowsa!

    Rain

    P5293221-small.JPG

Some of the raindrops are in focus, but with motion blur. The background is well out of focus.

    Perhaps this fits the criteria?

I play with Out Of Focus and other oddities from time to time, so of course I have tried it in my two favorite locations, the nearby swamp and the nearby dam. Here is what the swamp is like at sunrise in spring with everything OOF and a little movement. Movement is a different action than OOF but they can be used together and often the resulting image is somewhat similar - blurred. I've also done the OOF thing where you take a bunch of pictures going round a subject, some focused and some OOF, then blend them. Can't quickly lay hands on those right now.

Here is what dam birds look like in dawn light OOF plus longer exposure: angels I think.

Thank you for sharing your interpretation - that's quite fascinating. I didn't think of the first one but I like it. The second one describes pretty well what I had in mind!

Thank you for sharing! For me it does, but I guess it depends on how strictly you're interpreting the title/description. Rain is certainly an interesting subject for oof shots though... need to keep that in mind and try it next time I have a chance.

Those are very beautiful - thank you very much! Angels indeed in the second one and very beautiful colors in the first.

In the years you've been sharing your dam birds, I don't recall having seen one like this. Magical!!

Thank you! Flowers are indeed very suitable and versatile subjects for oof experiments. I've recently taken a couple of shots with quite an unusual lens, and while everything was just slightly out of focus in some of them, I really liked the look:
