After the poll

Let me talk to my fellow thread leaders in C&C (who are all asleep on the other side of the world). I wish the leaders of the share threads would offer their ideas too.

I looked at the current one and it is a bit of a mess. Still, I think it could be useful to have a place where we can discuss computer hardware things from a photographer’s perspective. The title needs changing: OS’s as such aren’t that interesting.
What I am missing is where to go with discussing software that is not about image processing, but about file management (DAM)

We could consider file management to be a part of processing. Or, if we need to be pedantic, we could rename the “processing” section to “workflow”. I’m willing to accept a certain level of ambiguity in the categories. A little “too open” is preferable to over-definition.

Alan, I think the Olympus section in equipment needs to be renamed to include OM Systems, i.e., Olympus/OM Systems. The grey box seems like it is large enough for that.

As to the 'Photography challenges and discussions', I would suggest 'Image Discussions and Challenges'. Not sure it that is the best possible heading but at least it is clear that it is for the discussion of images.

To be clear about my waning participation here it would seem that the majority of my internet colleagues have reverted to the old site. A shame in many ways. I want to extend my thanks to you and the team here. You have all done a terrific job! I am looking forward to progress on the threaded front so that I can more actively participate in some threads concerning actual images. Threads like the Weekly C&C are just too much work for me to follow as they are in flat view.

I do find it strange that some of those who complained bitterly about the old site ventured back the second it was announced it was staying. Almost like “please Sir, can you abuse me some more?”

How many have posted (on topic) in any of the forums here in the last 30 days? 😛

In my case, I see 18 days. That's in the Medium Format forum. My #1 place these days. I use a Pentax MF kit and then a Nikon Df by way of Small Format. So not much to say about SF anywhere. Although I did post one in a thread for Nikon Z about a rumored Zf retro. Just this morning. On DP Review. Because that's not being discussed here. Yet.

Not much MF activity here. It never really picked up here. Most of us DP Review MF folks were sticking over there until it died. Then would have split between here and another site trying to give DP Review folks a home. And then it didn't die. So most of us MF folks are still where we started from.

Now, I'm still here seeing what will wind up being done differently. And I don't expect I will leave. This is the only one of the DP Review - what to call them? - Jump Sites maybe? Anyway the only one I signed up for which I am still logging into. :)

The other one is even deader. Another difference is this site is actively developed and will evolve. I too will hang around and see where it goes. At the moment the signal to noise ratio is too low for me to feel very engaged though. Hopefully that will change.
