Do you have any photographer favourites that you really aspire to emulate? I particularly like this guy's work, but know I have no chance of having his eye! Any others that you'd like to share?

I only have heard of perhaps two or three other photographers and I certainly don't seek to emulate them (HCB, Adams, Fielder) since I don't shoot their subjects (landscapes, "street").

I have lots of photographers I like, but I don't wish to emulate any of their work.

    Examples:

The ones we know by their initials: EW, BW, AA, HCB, DDD, etc.

Eugene Richards, Diane Arbus, Michael Kenna, Jerry Uelsmann, Gregory Crewdson, Ruth Bernard, John Sexton, Sebastião Salgado, Huntington Witherill, Ted Orland, Sally Mann...

I have quite a few who have inspired me over the years.

My favourite without a doubt is André Kertész, I never tire of looking at his photographs.

The others who's work i admire and have influenced me are:

Don McCullin's Homecoming was a big influence when I went through my street photography phase.
Anthony Crickmay's dance photography, was something to compare myself against, when I did dance photography
Jane Bown. I love her portraits
Fay Godwin, inspired me when I was doing B&W landscape
Michael Kenna, makes me want to give up on landscape photography, I love his work.
Gabriele Basilico, was an architectural photographer, who's work I enjoy and has had an influence
Francesca Woodman, one of the few art for arts sake photographers who's work I enjoy.

There are lots of other photographers who's work has influenced me in some way or other.

While there are many in each genre (some are mentioned here), I am into decoding a local Albertan prairies photographer "Julian Ferreira" (since I am into prairies this year). I love most film photographers and have read some of their books. They are a great inspiration. In the upcoming modern greats, Ben Horne (large format film photography) is definitely someone I follow. I love Sebastiao's Erg Ubari, Libya, 2009. It's splendid and made me think of photographing Canadian Rockies in black & white.

Right there with ya. I'm just documenting my life, I have never even heard of most people listed in this thread.

Alfred T Palmer without a doubt. The man know how to light a subject. The work he produced during the war with Kodachrome transparencies was absolutely stunning, and still is to this day

Okay, I knew AA and HCB, I was able to Google EW and DDD (never heard of either one, but I suspect I found their names) but BW is just too common in photography to figure out a photographer's name. Who is BW?
