Subject: Cormorants

One day in January, I went looking for Wood Ducks again. But I found very few, so I was glad that I took so many of them when I did many weeks ago. But I did find a pair of cormorants. I was lucky to get a few pictures of them up close. But they did not feel comfortable with me, with that big Tamron 150-600mm lens, so they moved to the other side of the pond.

Photo No. 6 - Back into the water the cormorant went, apparently being fearful of me. I had a difficult time getting this one. The cormorant was moving around quickly and I was a little concerned that I would have a blurry photo. But it came out OK.

I hoped you liked this series. I should point out that there were two cormorants. One cormorant was attempting to dry its wings and the other one was swimming in a location close by.

The display of the wings drying is lovely.

They're interesting to photograph on the water. Sometimes, they'll dive and come up somewhere else which makes them challenging, occasionally they'll have a fish.

Subject: Dog In Carriage or Stroller

Have you all ever seen anything like this? I'm starting to see people (in at least two cases) push their dogs around like they were little babies in carriages similar to this. At first, I want to come up to them and say something like, "Ah, so cute...a cute little baby". Then I see a dog. It shocks me.

I saw this man pushing the dog around at another park a few days ago. I had to capture this picture. Times are different now. We used to have more babies. Now pets outnumber children in US households by a large margin.

If you find any pets in carriages or strollers like this, please share them.

Thanks. Yes, you are right. Sometimes we have to be very quick when the cormorants are swimming around.

I have a niece that has a 14 year old Bichon Frise (like a poodle but more energetic) that she has a stroller for.
I think the dog went through a number of operations so can't walk much so she uses the stroller to get him out while she at least gets some exercise.
Definitely different times and an oddity.

Yes, I painted that! They do get black at some point... but I wouldn't want to keep them inside of my house for so long. 😉

I'll show a couple more outside-shots. While it could certainly be a little more Winter-appropriate here currently, I kinda enjoy the warm weather and almost Spring-like temperatures.

Thanks for commenting on the man with the dog in a stroller. You helped me understand better of why a person might do that. If the dog is older and has trouble walking that makes sense to take the dog out in a stroller. That's the right thing to do, instead of keeping the dog at home all of the time. It's good exercise for the person that pushing the dog too. Yes, it appeared odd to me, but sometimes there might be an answer tor things we don't understand. We don't know for sure, but at least we know one reason for taking the dog around like that (instead of walking the dog on a leash).

That's great you are having warmer weather. Your photos look like winter to me, with the dark scenes. My favorite is the last one. I had to look twice. I see the raven shape now. I first thought you were referencing the small plants as being the miniature forest. That's what I first thought you meant. I saw the small plants but could not see the entire raven. But then you are referring to the beak and head of the raven. People make puzzles like that of shapes and colors and find that many of us perceive things differently. That's interesting that you discovered that shape on the tree-stump.

I like seeing the moon as well. It must have been cold...brrr...brrr.... 😀 What got you up so early in the morning? I do like to see tree silhouettes. But I would have liked to have seen less of the trees with the sunrise.

Thanks. I did get a chance to get outdoors again today, but it was not nearly as nice. But we only had light rain twice for a few minutes. During the rainy season that we are in now, I just love to capture the blue sky that we may find because a lot of the air particulates are cleared out. We don't have that summer haze that sometimes we see during the warmer and drier months.

Subject: Northern Shoveler

I was out hiking yesterday afternoon and I saw four Northern Shoveler ducks. Only one photo was acceptable for me, because the other pictures I took of them had blurry backgrounds. I must have focused them incorrectly...oh, well...things happen. But at least I got one. I didn't have the Tamron 150-600mm lens with me, because my intention was to just take pictures of other things like the flooding.

At this same location I saw a hard-to-see rainbow. We did have some sprinkles, but most of the time it was dry.
