If this thread is still up, it seems like the arbitrary nature of moderation at DPR is factual. The OP had found an SD card and was posting to see if the owner could be located. Nothing nasty -- an act of kindness. And the thread was deleted.

You are doing something right when you can inspire people to write entire 10+ paragraph long essays about you.
If people are wondering what has happened to Porky's little diversion - people that want to participate can still do so here.
We're testing out a possible way of handling diversions in threads without deleting what the authors probably think are profound and useful contributions.
Do both.... I do wish there was more 'film' involvement on either though.... skills, technique...etc... to bounce ideas off of on a more active forum / film

I think that's up to us -- to get the conversation going on the film forum. We'll never get to where Photrio is but as I have said I don't think their setup is suited to general conversation. Then again, DPR's film forum always did pretty well, and if DPR isn't going away, that might be the place to be for film discussion. Happily it avoided most of the negativity I saw in some other discussion areas, and I'm already seeing a bit of venom in the film discussions here -- people who can't voice disagreement or correction without being argumentative.

I was on the old site for over ten years, and never did post a gear list. I thought a photographer should be able to create good images with whatever he had, not the mythical 'best' required.

Regarding DPReview, only thing that seriously pulls me back is the (less than ideal) test scene with comparison tool. If anyone could do just little better, or even same, there would be no reason to stay. Video reviews mostly ruined it for me, unfinished reviews too. It matured in an unsatisfying direction.

The other problem with any site trying to replicate it is the size of the corpus of tests that DPReview has in there - still I suppose that could be filled with testing old cameras over time.
