Why Don't Camera's Have Raw Histograms?

Two independent things, culling and shooting. In fact, having raw histogram in a camera makes having raw histogram while culling more desirable.

I'm sure they do. Chris and Jordan, for example, have been calling for in-camera histograms in several of their videos. I'm sure other high profile people have been as well.

The camera manufacturers are unwilling to implement them, hence this thread 🙂

Well, maybe for some depending on how they do their culling but for me it wouldn't.

Phase One's backs have Raw histograms so if you have $50,000 to spare. I don't need a Raw histogram but would really like a blinky where any Raw area is overexposed. Ken

Look at it this way: if one has a raw histogram in a camera, wouldn't they expect to have it on a computer?

And while asking for a raw histogram in a camera, why not to ask why ACR/Lr/NC/DPP don't show raw histogram?

This is very interesting. Is the Histo in lightroom and PS any better than the back of the camera jpg preview or exactly the same? Surprized this is still going on!

Yes, it would be nice but not a must have for me. The in-camera raw histogram is much more useful for me.

In my experience they are never the same but similar because the way the camera converts the raw data to a jpeg will be different to the way my raw converter does.

The camera converts the raw data based on the camera's 'picture style' settings at the time.

I don't want to start an argument Iliah but a camera Raw histogram should allow the photographer to capture the most data. When processing we are manipulating the data to produce the most pleasing, to our eyes, effect no matter the data. If we had Raw histograms in Lr etc it may explain why our sky colours look a little odd when we darken them down but it is unlikely to improve the result. Ken

Was "highlight tone priority" the camera manufacturers user interface solution instead of raw histogram?

exactly, i want to know how a yellow dress or flower will be shown on a raw histogram. i like the way video guys set colours with zebras, its seems more intuitive and useful tool.

And other way round: because I have RAW histogram on my computer, in RawTherapee, I also want my camera to show it.
