I rather like the (tiny, but bright) splash of intense color in the otherwise very muted color scheme. I think their mass on the lower right balances the mass of the tree on the upper left.

I had very little "wiggle room" in this composition. What can't be seen in the image is the wall of my house just inches out of frame to the right and a support column out of frame to the left. I essentially was looking "down a tunnel" toward the fence and had to accept that narrow perspective with the (then) flowers in their position.

But as I said, I like them there. I didn't like any of the (very) slightly different angles that I was able to shoot.

I think the third image is the strongest composition. It's the best image of the foreground figure, showing his face and eyes and concentration of body posture regarding his interest in his phone, shows wonderful perspective lines all over the place and adds the interesting, but not distracting background figure to give indication of peripheral human activity.

Beautiful image, Roel. All the necessary elements, color geometry of the tower and foliage, its reflection in the lake and the framing of the foreground trees.

This is a great sequence of shots. Each one captures the energy and activity of the event, the exposure, colors and details are excellent. The drama and power of the performance comes through beautifully.

I went back and forth a couple of times looking at the images this week. Each time visiting I stopped for a while looking at your Fence and Fog-image.
Sometimes we find the good stuff right at home. Then we have to take notice and care about it.
In my opinion this happened, and with a good outcome here.

I like the image (in a total, the first impression). I figure things have been cropped away and that is probably good as it now is a well balanced composition. It's also interesting, hiding more than it shows letting the beholder go back to the gravity center which, for me, is the fence. A little odd and great.
Technically splendid (our different opinions on color space has been discussed earlier) of course.
When letting my thoughts wander away the image turns into one single piece of a jig-saw puzzle and then it turned kind of more pale.

I'm not that fund of the strong red and yellow colors. They may work together, balance perhaps, for some. For me they are an distracting extra pair of details not at all necessary. As I like the silence you gave me mentioning snow the red and yellow may very well be more muted:

• Technically the high contrasts work well. If printing big I would desaturate the blue tones in the foreground shadow details (such is life when getting hooked on details). Shutter speed is fast and the wheels are shown nicely. The biker going to the left is a little blurred but getting everything perfect in a grab shot is not expected. Shot against the sun which works wonderfully.
• The foreground fence kind of ruins the whole thing. Maybe it was impossible to get higher or closer? It would have been a better image with less of that fence.
• Is it cropped to the right? A little, just a little, more of the highway at the right would have been right for me. Now the road ends and somehow slows the right-most biker down.

The image can be used as promoting material for the next run and probably also by environmental activists in some way or another.

Chris, thank you very much. But, to be honest I’m uncomfortable with any notion of calling any weekly image the “best” of the week. What I really like about this thread is people feeling free to just comment about postings. No competition.
