I really like your B&W conversion !!
It has increased the general contrast and made the "bones" more prominent. Also that band of mist in the background has now become less dominent because it's now the same "colour" as the yellow grass, which again gives the viewer less distractions and so those bones now just jump out at you. Cropping the sky a bit also helped a bit too

I saw this last week and was not sure of my response.. I have seen many pictures and even taken a few of old rusting trackers and farm equipment from the last century ..... This picture seems to me to be less about the abandonment of this equipment and more the abandonment of the land and and maybe farming itself .....as it was practiced by individual farmers on small plots of land ... It reminds me of earlier days when we visited relatives still living on such a farm, still using a mule and older equipment than these to plow the fields... Maybe hard to believe that still was farming in the mid twentieth century. ...
As to the rendering of this picture.. I would look for one of the old film simulations or maybe sepia or umber or some such ....
But then your story may differ from the one I'm reading here ......
Abstract - Marching to Zion
I don't post many of these kinds of things but I'm still in recovery mode and this is a step forward from playing Wednesday Thread Roulette like last week. This is taken in the living room of the country house, a brilliant sunset filtered through ancient glass windows, thin woven curtains, then reflected on the antique glass door of an old cupboard style bookcase. So there's two kinds of glass, folds of windblown fabric, and a backdrop of old books holding that sunset up . But it looks like marching figures to me...

Like your abstract. Great transition from flames through blue sky, etc. One can improvise and imagine things...
In the nutshell I like all 3 versions. They all offer 3 different views on the same subject, but certainly have great impact.
