I'm a phone camera hater. For good reason. For me anyway. I love shooting wide. Like 16-18mm 135 format equivalent wide. A very large % of my shots are at less than 10mm (m4/3)
I've also been down the screen only/no EVF road, I persevered for a couple of years, will not do it again. My G100's have fabulous EVF's.
Ergonomics, & manual controls. Phones have none of that. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Diddly squat. If I sat down and tried to design something as horrible as I could muster for shooting photos with, I don't think I could design anything worse than a phone. I snap the odd shot for work purposes with my phone, that's it. Absolutely zero enjoyment derived from the exercise.
I understand that many people love their phone cameras, I'm not one of them. Not in the slightest.

Love it. Fabulous little lens. I'm not in the habit of trying to turn off lens corrections to go looking for problems, I just don't notice them. I also have the Laowa 10mm f2, I heard all the whinging about that when it was released -vignetting and so forth, I like mine. I also have the Panasonic Leica 8-18, another lens that plenty of the interwebz photographers moaned & complained about, mine is fabulous. Right from 8mm & f2.8, up to 18mm. Taken lots of my favourite shots with it. I like my 9mm better than that. Out in the real world, it's really really good.

My Nikon Z7 with a 24-200 weighs just 1155grams for a FF sensor and a lens that covers a wide range of subject opportunities.
APC and M43 do not really have any weight advantage any more and the new FF superzooms are very good for general travel, with all that pesky lens changing eliminated.
PS. Yes, I know stating facts like this sent the DPR M43 Mods berserk and a ban for this horrible truth was a certainty.

I only pointed out the uncorrected image to suggest a possible reason why the lens is soft in the corners an the flare issue is apparent in a number of shots . I am still tempted by lens as I do enjoy the small primes

Typically there are very few m43 lenses fast enough that do the same job as FF lenses and those that come close are typically just as large , heavy and always more expensive . There are also few FF lenses slow enough . I have been shooting m43 and FF together since 2009 , each system has its own strengths and weaknesses . In neither is there a free lunch. All cameras are compromises and we just have to make our choice where we decide to compromise. -

My PL9 is pretty much the same weight and size.
These were all shoot with the tiny little cheap and cheerful 12-32mm.
I can still see plenty of advantages to shooting m4/3 personally, as I'm not scared of changing lenses. Kind of why I bought an interchangeable lens camera really. -

[/quote]The thread is about travel. and when my EM5 was getting a bit too old, I looked at the EM1 + 12-100. I discovered that it weighed about the same as the Z7, which had impressed me when I tried it out. I especially wanted a one lens solution for my mountain hikes and just general travel.
Other usage and lens choices might make M43 a better choice of course, but not for one superzoom travel setups.
Actually i believe it is great to have choice of formats, and everybody has their personal choices which are none of my business. I just could not stand the "Fool Frame" ethos on the DPR M43 forum and the ghastly moderation team on that forum.

I use m4/3 cameras with SD cards. I've used two different methods for backing up and processing photos while travelling.
The ultralight version involves an iPad Pro with SD card reader attachment. It has a decent capacity and when needed I've paid for extra cloud storage from Apple- my last trip to Europe I signed up for the 200gb for CDN$4 per month so I wouldn't have to worry about laptops/hard drives. It was a family trip so I knew I wasn't going to do any serious editing of the photos until I got home.
My last trip I instead used a MacBook Air with an external SSD. It's bulkier but still pretty light and I had a few shoots planned that would be edited on the trip, so having a full featured laptop became important.
I never erase my memory cards while travelling. That gives me a second copy so if I lose either the cards or the computer/tablet I still have a backup. I also tend to rotate through my cards on a trip, so each day I'll put in a fresh card (or cycle back to the least-used card if I need to) to reduce the possible impact of a card failure.

Good thread! Lots of good ideas beyond what I normally do.....use my newer MacBook Air to store all my images.
