Subject: Focus Bracketed and Stacked Crocus Flower Coming Through Snow

Yesterday I managed to find one crocus flower (that was open), that was poking itself through the recent snow we had. I first started taking pictures of this flower with three other cameras. I saw them on the computer and realized that some of the pedals were quite soft due to depth of field. These flowers that I saw are very small, with pedals that are less than an inch long.

So I realized that I needed to focus bracket and stack the image to get the flower to be completely in focus. So I went out again looking for that flower with the Canon R8. It was getting late in the afternoon and the light was fading fast. Ideally, it would have been better to take these with a tripod, but I took it hand-held. With it getting dark, the ISO level was quite high. I had to do it right away, because the snow was melting fast and this photo op would have been gone the following day.

I bracketed and stacked 10 images. I'm still learning about it, so I hope to see improvement with this feature in the future. But anyway, this is what I got. It was way better than what I got with the other cameras.

Having fun is the only reason I take photos. A shot taken with my S5 and the much despised 26mm f8 manual focus pancake lens. Which I like very much. From the top of my parents driveway

    Ghundred,

That's beautiful with the rolling hills and blue sky. That reminds me a little of Southern Oregon.

It's a lovely spot for sure. At the base of the Kaimai ranges in the North Island of NZ. I suspect the next time I visit will be in much less happy circumstances, my Mum has just been diagnosed with a terminal illness, and in your mid 80's that doesn't give you a lot of time left.

    Ghundred,

New Zealand is beautiful with its mountainous terrain. I'm sorry hear about your mum. Life is so short and precious.

Every time I go back to visit my parents, I love to get up in those hills behind their place, and just soak it all in. Each time, those hills just seem to get a little bit steeper, and taller lol. At some point I want to do the North-South trail that runs the length of the ranges, I may have to settle for doing it in sections, of which I've done a few now. Over the years. Maybe an item on my bucket list :)
I did get to walk another section this visit, as luck would have it I picked the worst day to do it, the day before, and after was brilliant, but had other things planned. Such is life :) On the climb up

The weather started out quite nice, I'm heading for the top of that ridge line.Track was pretty hard to follow, it's been closed off and is starting to get quite overgrown, only the locals would know it's there. Used the GPS mapping on my phone to pick it back up a few times.

And walking along the ridge line at the top, heading South. Much easier going :)

Keep out. Nah, just fallen trees here and there

    Ghundred,

I liked seeing all of the green landscapes. One of the other ways I've seen New Zealand is on YouTube.

    Steve,

Have you ever been to Silver Falls State Park? There's so many falls around there, that I think a person could spend a couple of days trying to see all of them.

    Steve,

Here's some more you might like. The size of the people and the fence could help people appreciate the size of these falls. There are many of them, and this may be the largest...but I'm not sure. It's a good tourist destination.

Photo No. 7 - In 2021, this is when you could expect to see some Covid masks. Although, since it was outside, most people did not wear them. This was taken underneath the falls near the fence.
