That is quite close working distance. You must be good at sneaking up on them. Does your camera take filters?

More amazing colors. I rarely see bugs with such nice colors. They are mostly drab around here. You really have the stereo technique perfected. Can't be easy with live critters.

Thank you Barondia. It is difficult but rewarding to get a sharp one. There aren't many that survive the culling process and it can be a long time between drinks.

These ones are referred to as flutterers and their action is more akin to a butterfly's way of flying. Sometimes in wind they just glide in the one spot without any wing beats at all (but when they see the camera they flit all over the place...).
I would need a much faster lens if I wanted to freeze humming bird wings...

Unfortunately, in the area where I live insects are almost extinct. Very rarely does the opportunity arise to photograph an interesting uncommon specimen.

I guess they like the autumn sun as much as we do...

There are some reads about 2 feet high just off the bank that some of the dragonflies like perching on. I have been trying to lie down on my belly to get lower than them for a looking up shot. But not much success yet...
