I thought for minute it was what we call a teal duck, but they have a green (teal) splash behind the eye and under wings

Nice photos! Yes that green patch behind the eye is seen in a few males, especially in direct sunlight. To make things a little more confusing, they regularly interbreed with American Wigeon and usually have more extensive green patches / stripes behind the eyes. Ducks can be confusing sometimes!
