Burra, South Australia is the place. The small house featured on the cover of Midnight Oil's album 'Diesel & Dust", as Bryan suggested.
Your turn.

Some say it is in NSW, and some say it is in South Australia. Some it was built by the Welsh, and some say by the Cornish.
And the reason I said the above was that the first article I read actually said Burra NSW, which was wrong. And another article said Welsh miners built the chimney, also wrong. The Welsh tended to build square chimneys. The Cornish round chimneys. Just a little history learned along the way, which is part of why I enjoy this Guess the Place thread.

Now, this may seem a bit abstract but this 'phenomenon' is rare in this country and only seen in a few places. Of these places, few are accessible. Where was I? More clues will follow in 24 hrs or so.
Wow I grew up there and can't say I ever heard of it. Visited one area many times as a youngster / teenager.
