Are smaller pixels/sensors better for macro.

    but we are looking at images made from microscope objectives with extremely fine detail. read the olympus imaging link a poster had provided. you want the best image quality use a larger sensor. but under most curcomstances good enough is good enough.

    Stacking purely for noise reduction is a thing. It's equivalent to giving a larger exposure. It also works with focus stacking, if the focus stacking software is clever enough.

    I've been writing some of my own stacking software, so I can control that.

    You can say it for centuries, but it will still be wrong. All that larger pixels are better for is smaller files and faster rolling e-shutters, due to less pixels to read out. And maybe a little less light loss at very low f-numbers, around 2 or lower, but BSI is reducing that issue.

    Your so-called "tests"; did they use the same sensor area on both sensors so that you're really comparing pixel size/density, and not sensor area? Same optics, so that you're not comparing optics? Same subject and distance? Your claim should stand when everything else but pixel density is the same.

    Pretty much each next camera (of the same format) I got has smaller pixels than with the previous. As if smaller pixels help something ...

    only under common circumstances. thats why i chose the a74 over the a7r4 or a7r5 .as i shoot low light concerts and bigger pixels produce cleaner images.

    which is what we are discussing Diffraction limited also pixel bleeding, noise control. larger pixels win on all 3 . stack those 3 items 100 times and you get a less cleaner less detailed image from smaller pixels.

    sounds like computational photography. i have no problem with DR. do i spent $1500 on a new microscope objective or keep what i have is my delemma atm 😁
